Mankei is devoted to improving the American health care system. Trained in health administration, he has extensive industry experience that includes time - occasionally simultaneously - as a management consultant, professor, and executive at a variety of health care institutions.

In August 2019, Mankei started Life, Liberty, Healthcare to comment on and summarize complex health care issues, advocate for better policy, and focus on improving insurance coverage for all Americans.

Currently, Mankei works for a large integrated delivery system and is active in various industry settings. Other interests include tennis, cats, and coffee.
